“In February I will be teaching a six week gluten free cooking class through Willamalane in Springfield, OR. In addition to teaching a few recipes like pie crusts I would like to go over how to make your own basic flour mix and what to do once you have it, give a cost/taste comparison on different boxed mixes, and cover gluten free meals on a budget. Are you gluten free or want to cook for your gluten free family and friends? What would you want to see and do in a gluten free cooking class? Specific recipes? Favorite childhood meal? Tricks with baking that you haven’t figured out how to master in the gluten free world? I really appreciate any feedback and requests you have for a gluten free cooking class. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey!”

Thanks to all of you who signed the Gluten Free Labeling Petition

The White House petition to finalize the standards on gluten-free labeling was extended to November 3 due to hurricane Sandy. The final count was 26,911 signatures; over the 15,000 were needed to ensure that White House staff will review it, that it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and that an official response will be issued. We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who signed the petition! Together, we helped make a difference.

We’re into PIE SEASON! This year we have expanded our offerings to include traditional pumpkin pies, in addition to all our frozen treats! Our traditional pie is actually vegan, soy-free, and easily made sugar-free and gluten-free. EVERYONE will love this holiday favorite.
Our frozen pies include ice cream this year, our fabulous vegan pumpkin, and our well-loved kefir-based pumpkin frozen yogurt. In past years many of you have also enjoyed creating your own custom pies, with Local Berry Compote and Vanilla Bean, for instance, or the popular Mud Pie.

Prices are $22-$28, based on potential upcharges for our loving gluten-free, sugar-free, and vegan options. We also offer raw crusts!
Also, when you drive south past 24th and Hilyard, take a peek at our cart under renovation. We’ve got some very handsome reclaimed lumber that Tim’s turning into a great covering. This is a bulky, warm addition to our cart. We will reopen Dec. 1st (OPEN NOW!) with holiday lights, music, and OPEN sign, and beautiful locally crafted HOT CHAI LATTES! We can’t wait to share our new wizard with you, too, swirling into our yogurt and ice cream the best locally grown fruits!
Lastly, thanks for your patronage of our Whiteaker location. It’s off to a great start! Our soups have already gained a reputation for their slow-food goodness and incomparable flavor. We’ve had many customers say it’s the best soup they’ve every had, and come back day after day for their next nourishing meal! The frozen offering are SO special: ice creams like Hibiscus have the perfect texture and flavor; and new vegan treats like Mint Chocolate Chip have our regulars delighted.
