Upcoming GIG Southcentral PA Programs:
Gluten Free Holiday Luncheon and Cookie Exchange
In preparation for the holidays, we will hold another cookie exchange this year on Sunday, December 4th. This popular annual event keeps growing! Last year we had about 20 participants, and of course we all went home with a variety of delicious cookies for the holidays.
Remember if you don’t know what to bake, borrow a cookbook from our library.
We will gather at noon for a special time of fellowship and to enjoy a terrific gluten free lunch at Fenicci’s of Hershey, located at 102 W. Chocolate Ave. Their menu is a collection of authentic Italian cuisine accompanied by traditional favorites. Their tasteful menu is prepared with the freshest ingredients and homemade sauces. You will be able to select a delicious meal from their many gluten free entrees.
Following the luncheon, we will proceed with the holiday gluten free cookie exchange.
Needed for the cookie exchange:
õ Email your reservation to Wendi Wright (wendi_wright@ctb.com) or if no email, call her at 717-513-0027, by Saturday, November 26.
Wendi will then inform the restaurant and participants with a final count.
õ Pre-wrap 2 to 3 gluten free cookies in small plastic baggies or you can get creative — one baggie for each participant.
õ In order to give the participants time to shop and make their cookies, Wendi will email or call each person by Monday, November 28th with the final count. You will then know how many baggies of cookies to prepare.
õ Be sure to bring along a sufficient quantity of your cookie recipe to share with others.

There will be time for shopping and picking up of free samples as usual before the program. We are suggesting that all items be taken to your car before the program begins at 7:00 p.m. Bring your shopping bag and cooler.
Roundtable:
With so many more people in our area being diagnosed with gluten intolerances, we thought a Gluten Intolerance Roundtable would be very beneficial program. Many of you are very knowledgeable and have tidbits of information you would like to share while others would prefer to just listen to learn more from those who also live each day with gluten intolerances.
In addition, we will have a separate Roundtable just for teens and young adults.
This Roundtable will be facilitated by Cathy Campbell. Cathy previously shared information to assist our college bound students. She organized a vast amount of information when her daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease.
So sharing and questions from teens and young adults will tackle the various concerns related to living a healthy, gluten free lifestyle with peers while attending school or college.
Note: If your teen/young adult is in college and unable to attend, you, as the parent, may attend to take notes.
How do the Roundtable discussions work?
The chairs will be arranged in circles with a facilitator at each circle for a discussion, sharing, and learning experience on various topics related to gluten intolerance and the gluten free diet. The discussions will cover:
- cooking & converting recipes,
- shopping & best GF products,
- build confidence to eat out and travel,
- medical and testing questions,
- and eating more nutritionally and GF grains.
Each topic will be discussed for approximately 15 minutes. After each session, participants will circulate to a different circle to join with other participants for different perspectives and ideas. [Due to moving from circle to circle, we suggest taking shopping bags to your car prior to 7:00.] Don’t forget to bring your tablet and pen to take notes!
